Chairman Of The Board

Alhaji Magaji Dambatta, OFR, D.Litt, FNGE, is the Chairman of the board of Directors of Nagarta Radio.

A veteran journalist, an experienced administrator, a seasoned diplomat, a distinguished scholar, a principled politician and a respected leader, Alhaji Magaji Dambatta hails from Kano State and went through educational institutions at home and abroad from which he was groomed as a life Information Manager.

He worked for 22 years in the Nigeria civil service at both the regional and federal levels before retiring voluntarily into private life. He has held various public appointments, ranging from Chairman of the boards of the instituions of learning, print, and electronic media, such as the Broadcasting Company of Northern Nigeria, the Daily Times of Nigeria, Kano Broadcasting Corporation, the Triumph Publishing Company and now Nagarta Radio. He was in the early 1990s also the Chairman of the Federal Housing Authority.

Because of his hard work, dedication and integrity and his contributions in many ways to the development of Nigeria he has been amply rewarded with a number of honours, awards and commendations including :

  • Awarded with the Nigeria National Honour of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) in 1982.

  • Called to the Roll of Honour of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in 1985.

  • Given the Certificate of Honour by the Nigerian Institution of Public Relations in 1988.

  • Chosen as Goodwill Ambassador to the noble profession of journalism in the Year 2000.

  • Honoured with a Doctor of Letters D.Litt, Honouris Causa by Bayero University Kano in 2003, and

  • Conferred with the fellowship of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, (FNGE) in 2003.

Alhaji Magaji Dambatta's public spirited disposition extends into the work of non-governmental organizations such as the Kano Forum which promotes community INVOLVEMENT in the development of education and for which he is serving as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
